Piano Scales – Scale Segment View
All piano scales are built on two identical 3-note segments, plus 1 note.
That 1 note is either in the middle of the scale (4th), or the top of the scale (7th).
In this visual of piano scales you will see that all the scales in the area
of the two black keys and F major – C, Db, D, Eb, E, F – have similar
characteristics and all the scales in the area of the three black keys —
G, Ab, A, Bb, B – have similar characteristics and Gb (F#) is different.
For the scales in the area of the two black keys — C, Db, D, Eb, E, F –
notes 1, 2, 3 form the same shape as notes 5, 6, 7 and note 4 is odd.
For the scales in the area of the three black keys – G, Ab, A, Bb, B –
notes 1, 2, 3 form the same shape as notes 4, 5, 6 and note 7 is odd.
For Gb (F#) notes 2, 3, 4 form the same shape as notes 5, 6, 7 and note 1 is odd.
